The Long Trip Home – Week One
Dec 27th
So it’s been a while since I’ve last posted. It’s been an insane trip since I’ve come home.
The flight back with KLM was great. The amount of leg room I had was just great! I could stretch out the whole way; but still couldn’t sleep, but then I rarely sleep on long haul flights across the Atlantic.
So, I got home, my kind sister picked me up and I saw her new place at UBC, then headed into Abbotsford, and got home around 9:30pm. Not overly late, but still fairly tired after the long trip.
I arrived to some goods! My MacMini and BT Keyboard arrived! The beginning of my HTPC! I actually ordered a MacMini, BT Keyboard, MagicMouse, 4 x 1TB WD MyBook Home and the Logitech Harmony One remote. Actually, its all here now, and pretty awesome. I have Plex running on it, the firewire drives are all setup and loaded! This has freed a TON of space on my other externals and MacBook Pro.
I also met up with my best friend Mike, and spent a ton of time with him. Friday we destroyed his backyard to find a broken swear pipe. Sledge hammers, prybars, shovels, jackhammers… it was fun! We were close, but no cigar. The next day Mike was able to get to the pipe and fix the problem. All while I was out snowboarding! Actually I really enjoyed it!
Saturday I was snowboarding with my sister, good friend Shaun and his fieance Heather. Went up to Manning Park. Perfect weather conditions, but the groomed runs were pretty rough (compact ice and snow) but the powder was great! Definitely a fun day.
I then went out with my friend Tasenka and we hung out, saw some church play (though I really don’t believe the whole idea of miraculous conception and that Jesus was born NOT at winter time), then we went for coffee and caught up. It was fun and good to see here again.
Sunday I saw Avatar with Mike. Actually, before that, we had a HUGE seafood fest at my place. Lobster tails, king crab legs, king crab claws, prawns and scallops… it was insane. Then we went to see Avatar. Pretty freaking amazing movie!
Monday I went for sushi (OMG how I’ve been craving REAL west coast sushi) with Tasenka. That completely ended up in a food coma.
Tuesday I was with Meaghan, Lewis, Dusty, Candace, Katie and a few others at Meaghans having a little Christmas, shindig. Food, alcohol and good times. It’s always good to be back in the “group” situation, relaxing with friends and enjoying the time and company!
Wesdnesday and Thursday I was out with the worst flu I’ve ever had. Sick as a dog. Exploding stomach that churned like a cement trunk. Body aches, chills, sweats and no appetite. It was sooooo much fun! Even more so before Christmas and ALL that good food. Well it sucked, but I’m almost over it, just have a little cough left.
Christmas came and went. We didn’t exchange presents this year, hence why I bought myself a HTPC. The whole family (sans sister was home for Christmas dinner) which was fab. Yet again, another food coma, but the best part is, today the turkey turns into SOUP! Mmmmm, I LOVE turkey soup. Home made by mom. Mmmmm mmmm good.
Ended up buying a new lens and polarization filter. Got the Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. BestBuy had a boxing day sale for $279.99 regular $359.99… a savings of $80! Pretty decent sale actually. Also picked up a 8GB memory card. Going to NYC with 20GB of cards…. HOPEFULLY that is enough. Damn RAW format takes up WAY too much space.
Funny, when trying to thing about what has happened, all the days have started to blur together. There are things I have forgotten (I did make vegetarian lasagna and seafood ravioli) but those are just minor things. It has been a nice trip home so far, but it’s been a lot of work! Hopefully this next week in NYC will let me relax and enjoy the last few days before I head back to Sveeedeeen.

Being Sick Isn’t Fun
Nov 18th
Nothing is worse then waking up in the morning to get ready for work and you feel like hell in a hand-basket. Well, today, that happened to me.
I went to be at a fairly decent time, around 10:45pm, then woke up at 6:45am for work feeling like hell. Both ears plugged, nose/sinus plugged, throbbing headache, coughing, sneezing and body aches (but that would be associated to the gym). Hit snooze, and thought 10 more minutes would suffice. Unfortunately, no, it didn’t help at all.
Normally, I’d suck it up, take some meds and head to work. However, here in Sweden, I don’t have have my “home stock” of goodies. Here, I have just ibuprofen here, mostly for my post-workout aches. Now to make it even harder, I’m at a pretty tight moment for my work with me being the bottleneck, so I want to go into work and get my job done.
Well, due to that I’m not sure how contagious I am, and feeling like I got hit by a MAC truck, I decided to email in saying I won’t be in. I logged into my server, ran some scripts to load data I received overnight, took some ibuprofen then went back to bed, around 7:20am.
Next thing I know is it’s 3:00pm and I’m waking up, feeling pretty rough still. Headache was still kicking around, only my left ear plugged, and nose/sinus plugged. Now, I need food. Good thing last night I made some chicken vegetable soup. Had a bowl of that, then made my way to the Apoteket to get some goodies. Ended up getting a sinus spray which works extremely well!
So here I am, drinking green tea, orange juice, apple juice, and enjoying chicken noodle soup. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day!
Chicken Vegetable Soup Recipe
- 2 Chicken Breasts
- 6 Chicken Thighs
- 6 Large carrots
- 8 Stalks of celery (with leaves)
- 1 Medium Onion
- 2 Tablets of chicken bouillon
- Water
- Season the chicken breasts and thighs, and bake them until cooked.
- Clean & peel the carrots and cut them into decent size cubes and put them into the pot.
- Clean the celery stalks and chop them into decent size pieces and add them into the pot.
- Cut up the celery leaves, minced and add them to the pot.
- Cut up the onion (I prefer julian) and add it into the pot.
- Add in the 2 tablets of chicken bouillon
- Fill with water, so all the veggies are floating and bring to a boil.
- By now the chicken should be done. Pull it out, slice it up into pieces and put it into the pot.
- Mix regularly until celery is cooked, then take off from heat.
- Enjoy!
